'Muslims and their appeasing liberal/left allies'

Brett Lock of Outrage wants to know: "Why are some Muslims and their appeasing liberal/left allies getting so het up about fantasy cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, while ignoring real-life murderous insults and threats by Islamist fundamentalists in London, Europe and many other parts of the world?"

Lock & Load, 4 February 2006

"Muslims and their appeasing liberal/left allies"? That says it all really, doesn't it? It could easily be a quotation from one of the bigots who post their despicable comments at Jihad Watch. You might equally well ask: why are right-wingers, racists and their appeasing secularist allies so intent on provoking Muslims with offensive cartoons? Answer: because their ideologies, increasingly, have a lot in common.

As for "threats by Islamist fundamentalists in London", the mindless slogans and behaviour of isolated groups of former Al-Muhajiroun supporters have been condemned by everyone. But the threat such idiots pose is not to the potential victims of terrorist attacks but to their own fellow Muslims, who are now associated in the public mind with an irrelevant bunch of nutters shouting "7/7 is on its way". No doubt there are tiny groups of terrorists out there planning a repetition of 7/7. But they're not stupid enough to demonstrate in public chanting provocative slogans alongside the morons of Al-Muhaj.
